“I bought an older home in Whitefish with about 900 square feet of original oak floors, which were beautiful, but in a grave state of disrepair. The protective poly coating had been completely walked through over the years and in wear patterns throughout the house the floor was worn down to bare wood, which was stained from dirt and moisture and rapidly being destroyed. My husband and I had basically resigned ourselves to ripping out the distressed flooring and replacing all the floors, but we decided to call Ted. Ted, with an amazing eye for detail and obvious love of his craft, sanded all the floors down to bare wood, created a wood filler paste from the saw dust, applied two layers of wood filler on all surfaces (because some gaps were so large that the first layer of wood filler shrank and Ted thought two was necessary), and applied two coats of commercial grade polyurethane sealant. He also did all of this under a time crunch with me breathing down his neck to make sure it was done and ready for a tenant who was moving in on a specific date.”

The transformation of these old floors was 180 degrees, night and day. As my husband said, "we shouldn't have let him do such a good job because now the rest of the house looks like ****".

A few highlights of my experience working with Ted:

Responsiveness. Ted responded to my call about a quote within a few hours. Furthermore, his quote and a fair portion of the work he did were done over weekends, which I found unusual but very much appreciated.

Speed. There were a lot of steps involved and I think Ted powered through this whole job in about a week.

Value. We could not have replaced this floor at a lower cost, even with medium or low grade materials. Now we have a restored solid oak floor that is beautiful and durable. We certainly couldn't have put new solid hardwoods in this space for the amount we spent on this restorative work. I am so glad we didn't tear out this floor or lay flooring over the top of it.

Cleanliness. I was amazed by how clean this process was. Ted gathered the sawdust from sanding to use as wood filler, so this was a very clean approach. There was a fine layer of sawdust on the tops of a few baseboards and other than that you never would have known someone ground a layer of wood off the floors all throughout the house.

Allergies and odors - GONE. Perhaps the most magical result of having this floor ground down and restored is that the house smells completely different now. There used to be a somewhat dingy smell in the house - just a typical old house smell - and I didn't realize how much of that was coming from the floors. Prior to Ted's work, there were huge gaps between the boards, which were all full of dirt and debris because there's no way to properly sweep and clean a floor with such huge gaps. Also a fair portion of this flooring was at one point under carpet, which is gross. After Ted's work taking the surface of the floor off and filling all the gaps, the smell is gone and my allergies don't flare up when I visit this building. He took years off this house's age.

“Ted and his crew did an excellent job on my stairs and floors. While our place was rented out we were devastated to see that someone walked all over our stairs and floors with spiked boots and punctured literally thousands of deep holes into the wood. Since the floors are hand made circle sawn and distressed with weed burner/etc, it was impossible to just sand out the damages and the holes were too deep anyway. Other companies I had up to look at it said there was nothing you could do to fix it and just 'learn to live with it'. Instead, Ted had great ideas and a very positive attitude and they fit us into their busy schedule the following week. They moved furniture in and out, and everything came out great, I highly recomend them.”
